Hey guys, welcome back to my new blog.
Today we're gonna talk about the most revered hindu deity, Lord Shiva also called as Mahadev. Okay so first things first, tell me how many of you believe in Lord Shiva? I really do honestly, I am his ardent devotee and follower and love him immensely. Okay so we all know that whenever we talk about deities and gods, then there is a picture set in our mind that they will be beautiful wearing crowns, lots of jewellery and gold plated shoes and beautiful, soft clothes made with velvet and etc... But when we say Lord Shiva's name our mind always picturizes him as an ascetic, away from all materialistic things, the one who wears a snake as an ornament around his neck, one who has long, black tresses and also the one who wears the skin of a tiger as a clothing. Right? Why is it so? Why do you think that he is given the responsibility to bring "Pralaya" and start a new light year?
#The reasons are as simple as eating food (haha!!!):-
He is the one who neither has an end nor has a beginnning.
He is the Destroyer of the World, the one who can bring "Pralaya" anytime.
But he is also the one who protects us during adversities.
He is the husband of Devi Parvati who is the avatar of the Ultimate Mother of the Universe Mata Adiparashakti and who is also a form of Mahakali.
He is an ardent devotee and also the venerated deity of the Protector of the Universe Lord Vishnu.
He lives on the cold and foggy mountains of Kaliasha with his consort Mata Parvati.
He is the giver of the ultimate bliss and loves his devotees immensely.
But he also punishes those brutally who hurt his devotees or loved ones.
People call him as Adipurush or AnantPurush because he can neither ever die nor he has ever taken birth like the other gods and goddesses.
He is the only god who has not two, but three eyes. His third eye represents Justice and Truthfulness which usually remains close but once he opens it, the whole world is set on fire.
=) Now, the story behind the different things and animals he carries & wears which makes him this (img given below) is:-

The Snake - So the snake which lord Shiva wears around his neck is not an ordinary serpent but it is the first King of Serpents Lord Vasuki. He resides there as the guardian and constant supporter of Lord Shiva in his all noble deeds. So the story goes like this, that at the time of the Churning of the Ocean or SagarManthan, Lord Vasuki with the help of Mount Mandar became the rope to churn and helped the world to acquire the elixir or Amrit. Lord Shiva was extremely happy by this gesture of the serpent. Now because of a lot of churning & movement Vasuki was spilling Halalhal into the world, therefore Mahadev decided to consume the poison but before that many million serpents and snakes came to him and asked him that could they also consume the poison with him so that Lord Shiva had not had to suffer all alone. So Shiva granted them the permission to drink poison and that is when he praised all the serpents of the universe and said that he will protect all the serpents from here after whenever they need him and will wear Vasuki on his neck as a reward for their noble deeds.
Ash of the dead smeared on his Body:- He smears the ash of the dead people on his body because he is a Vairaagi by nature means away from the illusions and luxuries of the materialistic world. He also lives in the cemetry or the Shamshaan Ghaats where dead people are burnt so that their souls attain salvation.
Rudraksha Maala - It is believed that the Rudraksha contains the secrets of the entire evolution of Cosmos within it. Disciples devoted to Lord Shiva always wear Rudraksha to lead a peaceful life and also for deeper meditation. It helps maintain good health, gain self-empowerment and lead a fearless life. He also wears them as an ornament because he doesn't wear any other metal jewellery like the other Hindu Gods.
The Crescent Moon - The moon is considered as a peace factor in the angry nature of Mahdev. It also shows that Mahadev provides help to all those who seek refuge in Mahadev like the Moon once did when he was cursed by Prajapati Daksh, father of Shivji's first wife Mata Sati.
The Ganges River in his long locks- Once a sage cursed a king's 60,000 sons to burn in hellfire. To provide them salvation and peace in the other world, the king performed harsh penance to impress Maa Ganga {Ganges River} because in Hinduism she is considered to wash away all the sins of a person. When Maa Ganga appeared before the King she said that she only flows in Svarga Lok{Heaven} and nobody can Earth cannot straight bear the flow of her speedy waters. So then the King did penance for a boon from Mahadev. When the lord appeared the King, he told him everything and Mahadev agreed to give Ganga refuge in his long locks and flow on Earth from his hair so that mankind could prosper. This also shows that if you devote yourself unto Mahadev with pure heart he will surely help.
His THIRD EYE in the middle of his forehead- The third eye signifies destruction of evil forces and unrighteous people. It doesn't open too often but the moment the Lord opens his third eye there is only destruction and 'Pralaya' in the three worlds.
The Trident and Damru- Lastly, the Trident that Mahadev carries is his strongest weapon and signifies that if Mahadev can be Bholenaath then he surely can be Bhairavnaath who can destroy and punish those who are sinners. The Damru signifies his hegemony/adhipatya or supremacy on Music and Art because of which he is called "Nataraj Dev."
